Welcome to my world of tiny “creepy crawlies” and giant dinosaurs!

Every year I try to create a climate in my classroom that promotes an excitement
for learning and has a sense of “family”. We begin the year
“going buggy” by raising butterflies, ladybugs, and other insects. At the
end of our “dino”mite year, we’ll study dinosaurs. I graduated from
Northern Illinois University and taught first and second grades in Illinois
before coming to Deer Creek in 1990. I am honored to have been a Deer Creek
Elementary Teacher of the Year and Deer Creek District Teacher of the Year. As a
Chartered Member of Prairie Vale Elementary, it was a privilege to be part of
establishing our present elementary. In 1997, I was selected as one of 100
teachers from Oklahoma to work towards National Board Certification, the highest
national standard in teaching. After a year of extensive assessments, 39 of us
were notified as achieving National Board Certification, the first in Oklahoma.
As an educator, I am charged with the awesome responsibility of teaching young
minds—and I continue to be enriched by this experience.
In 1990, my husband, Jerry, and I moved to Oklahoma with our children, Nicole
and Nathan. Jerry is in the insurance business with the Hartford
and also teaches insurance classes. Nicole and Nathan are both Deer Creek
graduates. Nicole has her Master’s Degree in Psychology from UCO and
works for the State Health Department. She is married to Roy Diehl and they have
a daughter, Cassandra Nicole and a son, Roy III. Roy graduated from OU with a
degree in science education. They live in Edmond where Roy is a science teacher
with the Edmond Schools. Nathan has his Master’s Degree in Mechanical
Engineering from OSU and works for Chesapeake. He is married to Sarah, who is a
graduate of OSU with a Master’s Degree in business and works for Tinker. Nathan
and Sarah have a son, Caleb, and will welcome a new baby in April to their
family. Life really does not get any better than having your “babies” find the
love of their life-- and having grandchildren!
