Dear
Parents,
The mission of Deer Creek Prairie Vale is to serve as a caring community that
challenges all learners to achieve their maximum potential. In support of our
mission it is my intent to help students explore their interests, share
experiences, and develop a lifelong love of learning. I hope to accomplish this
by making each day fun while concentrating of the fundamentals, practicing and
maintaining learned skills, and relating learning to real-life situations.
My first priority in life, and always has been, is my family. My family
currently consists of three sons, all college graduates; one daughter-in-law;
three Brittany bird dogs, Slick, Sadie and Sally; and a husband. I have
lived in the Deer Creek school district since returning to Oklahoma in the
summer of 1987. I am a
charter staff member of Prairie Vale.
I was raised in Guymon, Oklahoma where I attended the same school system for
twelve years. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education
from Oklahoma State University and a Master of Science degree in Educational
Counseling from C.W. Post Graduate Center, Long Island University, New York. In
addition, I have continually taken classes in various areas of education at
different universities. This has allowed me to keep
current in an ever-changing field and also to gather new ideas for my class.
I married a career Army Officer and consequently have had the opportunity for a
great deal of travel, both in the states and abroad. I have visited nearly all
of the states, lived in ten of them, some more than once. One of my highlights
was living in Jerusalem, Israel for one year. This provided me the opportunity
for travel in Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Cypress and Greece plus the European
countries of Germany, France, Switzerland, and Denmark. These travels have
provided me with a wealth of knowledge and needless to say, I love teaching the
geography and social studies.
Through the years I have been exposed to numerous school systems both as a
teacher and a parent. In addition to Oklahoma, I have taught in the states on
Hawaii, Texas, Alabama, and Kansas. After all the exposure, our family considers
Deer Creek one of the top school systems we have experienced. Each passing year
reaffirms our decision to have moved to the Deer Creek District as opposed to
one on the "big city districts". My proudest moment in education came when I was
selected as Teacher of the Year 2000-2001 here at Prairie Vale.
I believe in Deer Creek and am proud to be a part of their growth and
excellence. As for the classroom, I believe in good order and structure while
having fun doing it. I have always had very open communications with parents and
look forward to the same this year. Please feel free to leave me a message on my
voicemail at school (359-3170 voice mail ext. 459).
