I
have always had a love for being around children. From babysitting to being an
adult sponsor of our church youth group, I have always been with children in
some capacity. It was a shock to family and friends when I declared my major at
the University of Kansas to be Graphic Arts. I tried the nine-to-five hours in
such jobs as; a Director of an Art Department, Manager and Designer of a retail
shop for a Kansas City television station, a Dental Assistant, and after my
children were born, I opened my doors for an in-home daycare facility.
In 1993, my husband talked me into leaving my hometown of Leawood, Kansas so he
could return to his hometown of OKC (we met at KU) and work for his family’s
business. A year after arriving in OKC, I decided to take an education class at
UCO. While being a mom of two small children and running an in-home daycare, I
took evening classes and received my Education degree in Early Childhood
Education. Later I received my certification in Elementary Education and went on
to get my Master’s in Education and became a certified Reading Specialist. I
currently work with individual students to help them become successful in the
classroom through different techniques. I could not possibly imagine myself in
any other career outside of the home that would give me the same amount of
satisfaction as teaching. I am grateful to those family members and friends who
encouraged me to go into teaching.

At the end of the workday, I am blessed to go home to a wonderful husband and
two awesome teenagers. Some of our favorite family activities include playing
board games and video games, watching movies, skiing, visiting family, and
supporting the KU Jayhawks and the OSU Cowboys. My personal favorites include
going to theater productions, singing in our church choir, drawing, and
gardening.
I enjoy being a part of the Deer Creek Prairie Vale community. We have some of
the best students and parents right here in our school. These families along
with the staff in Deer Creek, make it fun to come to work each and every day. |
